One of the best things about my job is the unpredictability and variety of work i get asked to undertake and this restoration project at a local Church was just that, and an honour to be asked to do.
The original choir stall wording dates back to 1849, and over the years had faded to be barely visable in some places - The project was to restore the gilding and signwriting to its former glory, without altering any of the feel or uniqueness of the original hand done type style. Got me thinking while doing this on why it was 'The Great Pestilence' of 1849?, which as it turns out was Cholera outbreak ( yep.. google! ) so i presume that this Leicestershire Church escaped the worst of that outbreak and that was why it was originally painted to remember the fact and record it for future generations. Restoration jobs are always an honour to do especially when they have such importance as this one. All the signwriting and gilding was done by hand as it would have been originally.
